A hybrid tool is only worth carrying if both halves agree, because the moment a laser shot and a tape pull disagree you are back to trusting one and re-doing the other. The T1R Range uses a time-of-flight sensor for the laser and the same blade you would hook anyway, and the two can be checked against each other on the spot. Knowing they match is what lets you use whichever one the situation allows and still order from the number.
How the two are checked

- T1R laser and tape both read 80 inches
A doorway height is measured with the laser, the dot visible on the head of the frame, and the reading comes back at eighty inches exactly. The tool is then switched to tape mode by holding the laser button and the same height is taken from the back of the tape, the magnetic tip hooked at the bottom and run to the top. The tape reading matches the laser.
