Buying a first-of-its-kind tool means taking a risk on a whole category, so outside recognition counts for more than usual. The T1 Tomahawk was named a CES Innovation Award honoree, and the features behind that are the ones you touch hourly rather than the ones that demo well: an e-paper list that holds the reading after the screen sleeps, a green alignment laser that shows where the number lands, and a pencil holder that lets the hand on the tape make the mark.
