Framing puts two different measuring problems in the same room: openings that are wider than you can comfortably span, and stock that has to be marked and cut to the inch. The T1R Range does both, shooting a laser across an opening and then reading as a tape against a stud, without a second tool coming out of the bag. Both kinds of figure end up in one saved list, in the order the walk through the floor took them.

A timber-framed house under construction is measured with the tool held up inside a framed opening, partition studs and the roof deck visible around it. A distance reading is taken across the opening, and the tool is then worked against the framing itself. The same display carries both readings.
