Measuring a long span across an open roof deck

A roof deck is the worst case for a tape: long runs, nothing to hook at the far end, a parapet in the way and wind that turns an extended blade into a sail. The T1R Range shoots the span instead and its green line stays visible on a bright deck, so the reading is taken and confirmed from one position rather than walked twice with somebody holding the other end.
Why a tape loses on a deck
- Long runs and nothing to hook
- Wind turns a blade into a sail
- T1R green line shows on a bright deck
- Taken and confirmed from one spot
- No second trip across the T1R Range span
An open roof deck is measured with a white parapet along one edge and membrane-wrapped sheathing behind it. A green line runs away across the plywood deck, visible against the bright surface, and the tool is worked along it. Stencilled markings on the deck sit alongside the line.
