How do you mark a straight cut line around a pipe?

A cut line that wanders around a pipe shows up as a gap at the coupling or a weld that will not close. The T1M Utility's reference square makes two points of contact against the pipe at once, so the line is square to the axis rather than eyeballed. Roll the pipe and repeat and the mark carries around true, with no wrapping paper as a guide.

Use the reference square that slides out of the bottom of the T1M. Snap it into place, set the tape against the pipe, and the square makes two points of contact at once, so the line you draw comes out square to the pipe instead of eyeballed. Roll the pipe and repeat to carry the mark around.
