Offset piping is the case where a tape has nothing to hook and nothing to lie against, so the usual answer is a body wedged between two runs and a blade held at a guess. Laser mode on the T1 Tomahawk anchors on the lower pipe and reads across from where you stand. The dimension for the fitting comes off the display rather than off an estimate.
