Measuring off a finished metal edge without marking it

Stainless and finished panel work leaves no forgiving surface. You cannot scratch a layout line into it, and a hook that slides off a rolled edge gives a reading a sixteenth long without anyone noticing until the part comes back. The T1M Utility's reference square hooks over the edge as a positive stop, so zero sits where the material starts instead of where the hook happened to catch. Each reading is stored as it is taken, keeping a run of panel dimensions together for the fabricator.

The video measures on stainless panels with the T1M's yellow reference square fitted, hooked first onto an overhead edge and then across a face, reading 2 1/16, 17 and 18 1/8 inches. The square carries the load against the edge while the body of the tool hangs free, which is what lets a one-handed reading on a vertical finished surface hold still.
