What do you do when no two cuts are the same length?
- Cut Lists
- Miter Saw
A stop block earns its keep on repeats and is dead weight on a list where every part differs by an eighth, because it has to be measured and reset for each one. The M1 Caliber reads the stock as it slides along the fence, so the next length is dialled in by moving the board rather than by moving a block. Blade width is already taken out of the figure, which is why a run of near-identical parts does not drift towards the end of the list.
How a mixed cut list runs
- Every part a different length, no repeats
- Nothing to reset between cuts
- Slide the stock to the next M1 reading
- The M1 Caliber takes blade width out
- Eighths apart without drifting down the list
Board after board is fed along the fence of a miter saw with the M1 Caliber mounted alongside, and the display shows a different figure each time, stepping through the twenty-five inch range in eighths. The stock is slid to each reading and cut without a stop block being set or reset between pieces.
