Why replace the blade instead of the whole tape measure?

A kinked blade or a worn hook ends a conventional tape, and the whole tool goes in the bin with a working spring and a good case. On a T1 Tomahawk the blade is the consumable and the expensive part is not: two screws out, the reader module off, the new blade in, screws back. The tool that costs more than a rack tape is also the one you stop throwing away, which is most of the argument for buying it in the first place.

The video runs the whole swap in a couple of minutes: the two screws come out, the reader module slides off, the old blade releases once it reaches the end of its travel, the new blade is threaded through and pulled into place, and the screws go back in. No specialist tools and nothing sent away for service.
