How do you line up a pipe with a fitting you cannot reach?

A stub-up that misses its fitting by half an inch is not a measuring problem, it is a second trip into the bay after the wall is closed. The T1 Tomahawk drops a green line straight down from wherever the blade is held, so the target fitting is picked up without a helper holding a plumb bob and without touching the pipe. The reading behind the line is captured at the same moment, ready to go to the saw.

A white PVC pipe is held across a stud wall and the green line drops from the tape down onto a fitting sitting near the bottom plate. The line lands centred on the socket rather than anywhere near the tape body, and the display reads twenty and a half.
