Dividing a width into equal parts means halving an awkward fraction twice, and the error lands in the last section where it is most visible. The T1 Tomahawk sends the width to the calculator, divides it and saves the result as a new target, then relative mode reads that same figure at each mark. Every section comes out the same without arithmetic.

Why thirds are harder than halves
