How much error is in a pencil line?

A carpenter's pencil lays down a line wide enough to argue about, and once you add cutting to the line, on the line or off the line, a sixteenth has gone before the saw is running. The T1 Tomahawk projects a green line far finer than graphite and puts it exactly at the reading, so there is nothing to interpret. Because the figure is captured on the display at the same moment, the next piece is cut from the number rather than from the line.

The tape is set on stock with the green line landing on the blade around the eight and nine inch graduations, and a pencil mark is made alongside it for comparison. The line is then run across a guide rail laid on a sheet, staying narrow and continuous over the whole span. The laser line and the pencil line are shown in the same frame.
