A cored penetration is set once and everything above it has to agree with where it actually landed, not where the drawing said. Pulling a tape across an open slab to find it means a helper on the far end and a blade that wanders. The T1R Range throws a green line along the floor, so the penetration is picked up from wherever you are standing and the distance reads on the tool in the same motion.

A green line is laid across a concrete slab and runs dead through a cored floor penetration packed with firestop. The tool is held low near the floor and the line is walked onto the opening until it crosses the centre of it. Metal stud partitions stand in the background of the same pour.
