A window survey needs both kinds of measurement: a blade against the jamb for the frame, and a laser across the room for anything you cannot walk a tape to. Carrying two tools means two lists to reconcile afterwards. The T1R Range switches from tape to laser distance measure on one button press, so both come off the same display into the same saved list, in the order you took them.

A window with a dark frame is measured from inside, a stone building visible through the glass. The tool is worked along the sill and the jamb as a tape, then switched with a single button to take a distance reading. Both readings appear on the same display without the tool being set down.
